What Vegans Eat – Day 223

Breakfast: We have oatmeal a lot. Can you tell what’s different about this bowl? Gary added a little bit of polenta in with the oats. Polenta takes a little bit longer to cook but just a little bit adds a nice chewy texture and subtle flavor. What shall we call it? Oatlenta? Polentoats? Apples and Raisins were part of the mix as well. We had it with Orange Slices and Earl Grey Tea.

Daily Green Juice: Kale, Celery, Carrots, Broccoli, Ginger, Lemon

Dinner: The last supper… Simple Veggie in Rego Park is closing. We are sad. This is a wonderful vegan restaurant. The food is always fresh, never too salty or oily. And the big bonus is that we can walk there. Lisa, the owner promises that the new restaurant coming in will be better. It will also be vegan and a similar Chinese style cuisine. Stay tuned. Now back to the food! We began with Radish Cakes.

I had the Lion’s Head dish which comes with delightful chewy little vegan “meatballs” made from tofu skin; chopped carrots, kernels of corn, diced onions and exotic spices are also added to the mix; delicious!.

Gary had the Hot Pot Veggie Lamb.

It made me think of the t-shirt we saw at Mooshoes at the Veg News Party last weekend. It said “What kind of asshole eats a lamb?”

The new restaurant coming in will be called Green Zenphony. Apparently it’s the same owner of the restaurant Green Melody that used to be in Jericho, NY, further east on Long Island. That food was really good.
