Breakfast: Big day planned. I was going to visit with my parents. I had hired a new cleaning service for them and wanted to supervise. I have never used a cleaning service for my own home. As Cinderella says in the musical Into The Woods, “sometimes I even enjoy cleaning.” And I do. Gary and I share the work. But my parents are getting too weak to do the cleaning themselves and I had to do something. Gary prepared a big bowl of Rolled Oats, Cacao Nibs, Apples, Pumpkin Seeds, Sunflower Seeds and Almonds to nourish me and keep me going all day. I topped it with Almond Yogurt.
The cleaning service was to arrive at 1pm. A neighbor and close friend who uses the service warned me that they often show up late, sometimes 1 1/2 to 2 hours after the scheduled appointment time. We sat and waited. They arrived at 3pm and started working at 3:15pm. Then we sat and waited some more. It took 4 1/2 hours for a team of three people to do the initial cleaning. When they come back it will be much easier and take a lot less time. They did a wonderful job.
Dinner: It was time for dinner. I thought we would try the Dix Hills Diner. My parents like diners a lot. The other option was the Plainview Diner. If you remember what I wrote in What Vegans Eat – Day 815, you’d know why I wasn’t going to go back to the Plainview Diner. The service at the Dix Hills Diner was very good. I ordered the Dix Hills Salad with no cheese. The presentation was a lot of fun with a big mountain of spiralized Carrots piled on top of mix Greens, Tomatoes, Avocado, Red Onion and Cucumbers..
My mom got the Veggie Burger and she was very happy with that. I don’t think it was vegan, I didn’t ask, many veggie burgers are not vegan, they use eggs, but it was a good choice for her with Sweet Potato Fries and Onion Rings. My dad ordered the Spaghetti and Meatballs which definitely wasn’t vegan.
