In this episode Caryn talks about returning to Costa Rica after years of delays — cancer, family caregiving, COVID — to finally begin developing the property she bought near San Isidro de General in 2005. The trip was equal parts practical and deeply personal: she navigated Spanish-language bureaucracy to gather documents, hired workers to start clearing the land, and connected with a neighboring sustainable farmer who has been working the land for over 20 years. Daily life was simple – getting up at 5am with the sunrise, eating fruit, rice and beans, in bed by 9pm — and staying in a friend’s home kept costs down. But the emotional center of the trip was walking your property and feeling, after all this time and all those detours, that she was exactly where she was supposed to be.
