Breakfast: I tried a last minute Soaked Oats cereal. This morning, I prepared two bowls with Rolled Oats and Soy Milk and added in frozen Strawberries and put them in the refrigerator. I thought the Strawberries would defrost by the time we came back from our walk. When we got back it seemed like the milk had frozen instead of the strawberries defrosting! It took a little hacking with our spoons to break things up but it turned out okay. I topped mine with Chia Seeds.
Lunch: We drove up to Bernal Heights in San Francisco. We were filming an interview with my old friend Mike. He owns a lanscaping company and has an education in plant ecology. He is growing all kinds of fruits and vegetables at his home in permaculture fashion. During the tour and interview Gary and I got to sample Figs, Plums, Pluots, Malabar Spinach, Shungiku Edible Chrysanthemum, White Sapote and more.
Dinner: After a hard day’s work we decided to treat ourselves to Veggie Grill. It is only a mile and a half away from where we are staying so we walked. We’re New Yorkers! We’re walkers! It was a lovely evening, a perfect time for walking and breathing the fragrant air. I ordered the Summer Celebration Salad with BBQ tofu, tabbouleh, avo-kale hummus, fire-roasted corn and tomato salad over arugula and romaine, citrus vinaigrette and flatbread. Gary (my burger boy) got the Quinoa and Veg Burger, Bad-boy style, of course. This is a scratch-made blend of organic quinoa, kale and mushrooms, with Chao cheese, house-pickled onions, arugula, veg mayo, drizzled cilantro pesto and served on a brioche bun.
Evening: We walked a little around Santana Row before heading back. The Pressed Juicery was advertising a new nondairy frozen treat called the Freeze. We walked in the store to sample some. There are four flavors. We tried the Vanilla and the Matcha and then ordered the Strawberry Almond Freeze to share. These are great treats sweetened with dates and made with REAL food.
