Spice up your everyday rice easily with a little onion and Garam Masala. Garam Masala is a spice mix that typically contains Black and White Peppercorns, Cloves, Cinnamon or cassia bark, Mace (part of nutmeg), Black and Green Cardamom pods, Bay leaf, Cumin and Coriander.
Ingredients:
1 cup organic brown basmati rice
1 cup organic red rice
2 cups water
1 rec onion, finely chopped
2 teaspoons Garam Masala
Directions:
Cook the rice: Put the rices and water in a sauce pan and bring to a bowl. Cover and simmer for about 30 minutes until the rice is cooked. Do not stir or disturb the cooking rice until done. Remove from heat and let sit, covered.
Chopped the red onion.
Toss the spices in a fry pan and toast on medium heat, stirring occasionally for 5 to 10 minutes. Add in the onion and let it cook with the spices, stirring frequently. Add a little water, 2 tablespoons at a time if the mixture starts to stick.
Add in the rice and mix to incorporate. Serve immediately, or remove from heat and cover until ready to serve.
