What Vegans Eat – Day 1066, Travel Edition

Share

Breakfast: I was meeting some family members who were in San Francisco for a few days. It’s about an hour drive from where we are staying in San Jose. I was slow getting started in the morning and didn’t have time for breakfast. I grabbed my soft foods – a cooked Sweet Potato and the last leftover Soft Tofu Roll from Khahn’s and I was off.

Lunch: We had a late lunch at Cha Ya, a vegan, Japanese restaurant. I love the food. My meal came with the House Miso Soup. No need to ask if there are any bonito fish flakes in this miso – it’s VEGAN! Unfortunately most Japanese restaurants put fish flakes in their miso soup. This one was delicious with Wakame, Tofu, and Green Onion.

I ordered the Cha-Ya Nabe (Vegan Sukiyaki Hot Pot) with Napa Cabbage, Spinach, Red Onion, Carrots, Mushrooms, Kabocha, Lotus Root, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Zucchini, Snap Peas, Snow Peas, Silver Noodles and Tofu simmered in Soy-based Broth.

Other dishes on the table included the Sea Vegetable Salad with Hijiki, Seaweed salad and Creamy Sesame Dressing.

Here’s one of the small plates: Ten Bo (Tempura Vegetable Sticks) with Yam, Carrots, Squash, Green Beans and Atsuage Tofu Tempura.

When I saw this arrive I wished I had ordered it, the Kinoko Miso (Mushroom Medley), House miso Soup with Himeji, Eryngii, Portobello, Green Onion, Tofu, Kaiware served in an iron pot. Next time…

And there was the Cha-Ya Delight (Seasoned Brown Rice Bowl) with Carrots, Kabocha, Broccoli, Lotus Root, Cauliflower, Shiitake, Zucchini, Snap Peas, Snow Peas, Broccolini, Atsuage Tofu, Hijiki, Yamagobo, Oshinko and Kaiware. All of the dishes were full of delicous flavors.

Dinner: I met Gary at the theater for another rehearsal. Afterwards we picked up a couple of pre-made Green Juices from Whole Foods.

I had my late night dinner of soft foods – Coconut Yogurt from Trader Joe’s. This was a big treat, and sweet.

Next I went for Rice Crackers with Peanut Butter and Peach Preserves. My lockjaw has not improved for two weeks! I’ve started taking Aleve which my dentist recommended. Will it help me?
