What Vegans Eat – Day 1068, Travel Edition

Breakfast: On Saturdays we have afternoon rehearsals instead of in the evening. Breakfast is important. We had cooked Oatmeal with Strawberries, Raisins and Applesauce on top. Gary bought me the applesauce since I am trying to eat soft foods, while my root canal procedure-induced lockjaw heals.

Snack: At rehearsal, our co-producer Katie who frequently brings us treats slipped me a Forager Strawberry Banana Smoothie. I appreciated it!

Dinner: After rehearsal we were so hungry we couldn’t think clearly. We couldn’t decide where to go for food. The Vegetarian House was the sensible place to go in our starving state. It was hard too to make choices once we were there. We started with the Heavenly Salad and then got to work on deciding what else we would get.
The Heavenly Salad has Shredded Red and Green Cabbage, Soy Protein, Tofu, Onion, Carrot and Fresh Mint tossed in a light Vinaigrette; topped with Crushed Peanuts.

We both were eying the Soy Protein section. The Vegetarian House Soy foods are all non GMO. I ordered the Gurus Curry, an exotic blend of Curries, Soy Protein, Potato, Tomato, Peas, Onion and Spices in a rich Curry laced with Green Cardamom, Cumin and Cloves.

We had seen one of the servers on break eating a tempting dish and we were told it was the Queens. Gary ordered it. It is Soy Protein with Onions and Garlic pan fried in the house special sauce. It’s steak smothered in onions!

Evening: Later back at the house we are staying in we cracked open the box of Sjaak’s Chocolates, Sunny Mueller, the Vegetarian House manager gave me after I interviewed him.
