What Vegans Eat – Day 1693: travel edition – San Francisco, California

Share

First Meal: We are settled in Monte Sereno for the week. First a funeral to attend on Saturday and now we are free to enjoy the Bay Area. The weather is perfect, sunny, warm with a cool breeze here and there. Breakfast began with a bowl of Oats loaded with fresh fruit – Apples, Bananas and gorgeous Strawberries.

Second Meal: Gary suggested we go to San Francisco. He wanted to get that wonderful feeling that San Francisco gives. In addition he wanted to see some of the Cow Hollow sites on Union Street he writes about in his new play, Bad Hemingway by the Bay. We spent some time out by the Presidio enjoying the view of the Golden Gate Bridge, one of the most beautiful spots in the world. Then we went over to Union Street. Gary remembered we had once stepped into the Vegan Picnic but didn’t stay to eat. Today was our chance. The exterior is exciting and inviting!

As we were decided what to get, the server offered us samples of their new vegan Meatballs. OMG! These are so good.

Signs like this make me very happy.

The store is small and airy with a few places inside and out for you to enjoy your “picnic”.

Another sample? Vegan Egg Salad? Okay, we’ll try some!

There are lots of fun dishes to choose from.

And treats, like Brownies and Croissants.

Gary chose the Crispy Chicken. The server gave us two sides too, Cole Slaw and Macaroni Salad.

I wanted the Slawpy Crab sandwich. It was super SLAWPY!

While we were sitting and enjoying our picnic, the server came over with four different vegan cheeses to sample from The Uncreamery. What a wonderful day this is. These cheeses are excellent.

With full, happy bellies we continued our walk on Union Street. Gary was telling me about Prego’s one of the restaurants he writes about, as we passed the location where it used to be. In it’s place is a new restaurant called Wildseed and guess what? It’s VEGAN! We will have to return another day for some fine dining here. It looked beautiful inside.

We walked up and down Union Street and walked over to Filmore Street so we could walk up the concrete steps there. What a great workout! Back on Union Street we stepped into the Union Street Coffee Roastery for tea before heading back south to Monte Sereno.

Third Meal: I made a big Salad dinner with Mixed Greens, Strawberries, Orange Cherry Tomatoes and Avocado.

For dessert, I couldn’t wait to bite into the Croissant we brought home with us from the Vegan Picnic. I had a small piece of it. It’s yummy!
