Breakfast: We were going to be meeting our friends Carole and Frasier later in the day for dinner at Candle Cafe West. They come up from Baltimore a few times a year to take in some New York culture. They were visiting with a group this time and heard the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra play at Carnegie hall the evening before. Today they were seeing a show on Broadway and we planned on meeting after that. Since we knew we’d be eating a luxurious meal, we kept things simple in the morning. I had leftovers from dinner, Gary’s Lasagna Al Forno and Green Beans, with Green Tea.
Daily Green Juice: Kale, Collards, Celery, Carrots, Lime
Dinner: We got to the restaurant for a 6:15pm reservation and were delighted to see that the place was crowded and bustling. It’s always good here but this evening’s food was better than ever! I had the Cornmeal Crusted Tempeh, with sautéed wild mushrooms, string beans, escarole, garlic mashed potatoes and porcini gravy. Every bite was spectacular.
Someone always has to order the Seitan Piccata, with creamed spinach, mushrooms, mashed potatoes, white wine lemon caper sauce and this time it was Frasier.
Gary went for choosing his own sides: Grilled Tofu, Grilled Tempeh, Fries, and Sautéed Greens.
Carole went for the sides too. She ordered Grilled Tofu, Sautéed Greens, Grilled Zucchini and Daily Vegetables. We were all very happy with our choices.
It’s my birthday week, so yes, I ordered dessert. I got the Coconut Cream Pie with almond crust, caramel sauce, and chocolate fudge. I could go for another piece right about now.
Gary ordered the Carrot Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream. Frasier got the Strawberry Rhubarb Pie and Carole had the Chocolate Mousse Cake. We all cleaned our plates.
Evening: When we got home we shared a pot of Mint tea. The birthday week had gotten off to a great start.
