What Vegans Eat – Day 103

Share

Breakfast: The morning started out like any other day with oats. But I knew it was going to be special. Gary’s birthday is on May 28 and we started celebrating early. We had the oatmeal bar where we added whatever we want to our rolled oats – sunflower and pumpkin seeds, raisins, coconut, flax seeds and topped it all with coconut milk.

Gary and I went off to Manhattan. We took the Long Island Railroad instead of the subway, like we usually do. It was a beautiful day. We walked about 15 blocks to the Winter Garden theater to pick up our theater tickets at 50th Street and Broadway and then hurried over to Beyond Sushi at 56th and 6th Ave for a quick bite before the matinee performance of Wolf Hall, Part I. I didn’t take pictures but I found some online. The menu is amazing and everything is fresh and delicious. You don’t need fish when you have Beyond Sushi to creatively fill your rolls.
Lunch: We got 3 rolls: The Sweet Tree with Six-grain rice, Avocado, Sweet potato, Alfalfa sprouts with a Toasted Cayenne Sauce; The Spicy Mang with Black rice, Avocado, Mango, English cucumber, Spicy veggies and the Toasted Cayenne Sauce; and the Pickle Me with Six-grain rice, Gobo, Carrot Pickled Daikon, Avocado and a Carrot Ginger Sauce.

And we had the Nutty Buddy Wrap, a Rice Paper roll filled with Baby greens, Buckwheat noodles, Cashews, Carrots, Cilantro, Jalapenõ peanut butter, Avocado, Sesame oil and Tofu with a Sweet Soy Mirin. Wow! That was good. Can we go here again soon?

Dinner: After the matinee I took Gary over to Lillie’s Time Square for a drink. That’s what I told him anyway. I had a surprise party planned! This is a fun restaurant and bar in the heart of the theater district. While not vegan, they were vegan friendly. After a couple of Blue Moon draft beers, I ordered a quinoa salad with baby kale. The surprise continued with a luscious Decadent, Chocolate Layer Cake from Vegan Divas.

Dinner: After the party we went back to the Winter Garden Theater to see Part II of Wolf Hall. After the play, we headed home and enjoyed the remaining piece of chocolate cake with a little mint tea. It had been a great day.
