Today I was getting my annual medical exam. Gary came along for the fun. We skipped breakfast. It wasn’t necessary but I wanted my blood drawn before I ate.
Lunch: My doctors are at Mount Sinai Hospital on the upper east side of Manhattan. You know what else in on the upper east side? Candle Cafe. We walked 30 blocks south to the restaurant. We began with drinks. Gary ordered the Goddess Green Juice with Kale, Spinach, Apple, Cucumber, Lemon, Ginger and Celery. and I had a Ginger Latte with Ginger, Almond Milk and Agave. Cheers! We are celebrating! It’s my birthday month.
I have eaten at this restaurant many times over the last two decades and I don’t think I ever selected the Good Food Plate, where you get to choose four sides and two sauces. It was exactly what I wanted today. I chose Masala Beans, Sautéed Wild Mushroom, Sautéed Greens and Mashed Potatoes with a Red Pepper Turmeric sauce and a Vegetable Gravy. Gary got one of the specials, a Wrap that was fully loaded. He was amazed at how delicious it was.
Dinner: I have had several Ginger Lattes now at restaurants and I wanted to make one at home. I heated Coconut Milk with Ginger and Turmeric powders and Raisins and then blended it all up. It was a bit thick but so yummy.
I finished up yesterday’s Red Cabbage and Kale Salad, topped with Chia Seeds. Much to my surprise, when I went on my computer I discovered my results from this morning’s blood test were already recorded on my online chart. My CA 125 (the ovarian cancer marker) result was perfect, well under the limit. I have been cancer free for over ten years. Yes, we have a lot to celebrate!
