What Vegans Eat – Day 1362

Share

Breakfast: It was one of those days where I had too many events to go to and I intended to go to them all. But first, breakfast. We had a very fine Oatmeal cooked with Pears and topped with Blueberries, Flax Seeds and Homemade Applesauce.

Lunch: First event was an afternoon concert I was singing in called Memories and Music of Leonard Bernstein. I was pleased, I hit my high notes and enjoyed the experience. Then we rushed over to my friend Janet’s home where she and her partner David were celebrating their recent birthdays. Unfortunately we couldn’t stay long because we had dinner plans. We got home to park the car and then found out our dinner would be later than originally expected. I had burned a lot of calories singing and was super hungry. Gary and I had a little Red Lentil Soup.

That was followed by a small Green Salad. That would hold me until dinner.

Dinner: We had plans to meet Robert Grillo and his partner Tom at Candle Cafe West. They were in town for the Hudson Valley VegFest where Robert gave a talk. I had interviewed Robert twice and could not wait to meet him in person! When we got to the table Tom and Robert were already seated. It felt like we were all old friends. Gary ordered his favorite Pinkus Hefe-Weizen and I ordered a Maker’s Mark Manhattan. We were celebrating!

This is one of our most favorite places to eat. Gary ordered the Market Plate where you get to choose four sides and two sauces.

Robert went with Candle’s signature dish, the Seitan Piccata.

I was feeling adventurous and chose the Live Lasagna. Tom got it too. About 14 years ago I was eating an all raw diet and loved this kind of dish. It was spectacular, so very rich and filling. I recommend it!

Evening: After a long and lovely day we made it home. A sweet, juicy pear seemed like a the right thing to have to end the day.
