Breakfast: It’s our second day back home since a month-long trip in California. Now that we got the terrace cleaned up from the pigeon poop saga the day before we could out on the terrace. Gary made a special cooked oatmeal breakfast with fresh blueberries, bananas, chopped almonds and apples, dusted with ground flax seeds with Kukicha Tea.

Dinner: We were invited out to Candle Cafe West by Fran Costigan who organized a dinner gathering with Allison Rivers Samson, her husband Dave and daughter Olivia who were in NYC on a visit before heading to Vegetarian Summerfest next week. We were joined by Demetrius Bagley, Diane Wenz and Sharon Nazarian.

I began with a green juice, Candle’s Green Goddess made with mixed greens, lemon and ginger. The wonderful art work is by the delightful Olivia Samson.

Gary ordered a nachos appetizer made with grilled seitan, tapioca cheese, chili, guacamole, salsa, tofu sour cream, romaine lettuce and corn chips. I had a bite or two.

I was not very hungry and just in the mood for greens. The kale salad hit the spot. It was made with string beans, beluga lentils, red onion, turnips, avocado, sunflower seeds, spelt berries, chive vinaigrette.

Allison treated us to some samplings from Allison’s Gourmet which included Salted Almond Bark, Peppermint Patties and Chocolate Almond Toffee. The toffee was my favorite!
