What Vegans Eat – Day 1778

Share

First Meal: It’s Christmas Eve. I didn’t want to spend the day at home. I suggested we try Champ’s Diner for a late brunch. I had some things to do and by the time we got out of the house it was about 1pm. The restaurant was closing today at 3pm and the last seating was at 2pm. As we rode the subway wondering if we would make it Gary suggested we might try another place that was open later. What would we do without our smart phones? I searched for places that were open. Many restaurants are closed or closing early today. Divya’s Kitchen, a vegetarian ayurvedic restaurant was open and I had always wanted to try it. We were delighted to be greeted by our friend Ariela who works at Divya. She gave us the royal treatment with excellent service. We started with fresh Almond Milk Chai Tea. Delicious and spicy.

We shared the Vegan Mozzarella Plate, a Caprese-style plate, with a Sunflower Mozzarella Cheese, infused with Olive Oil, with Cherry Tomato, Micro Basil. Oh my goodness! This was excellent.

Gary had the Vegetable Curry in Cashew Sauce with Taro Root, Carrots, Green Beans, Cauliflower, Zucchini, Curried Red Lentils & Beets, Basmati Rice, Cilantro-Mint Chutney. Don’t you love the vibrant colors?

He also got a side of Beluga Lentils.

I chose the Seasonal Khichari (Rice and Lentil Stew) with Green Beans, Carrots, Zucchini, Kale and Cilantro-Mint Chutney. I was so hungry and this really filled me up.

It was a spectacular meal. Everything was fresh, not too oily, not too salty and full of flavor.

It’s Chanukah and Christmas Eve and we need to have something sweet to celebrate. We were near Dunwell Doughnuts and picked up a half dozen. Dunwell Doughnuts are the best and all vegan.

Second Meal: I made another Rice Congee with leftover Brown Rice from Green Zenphony, adding in fresh Ginger, Shiitake Mushrooms and Chickpea Miso. I could eat this anytime.

Next we had Sweet Potatoes, Hummus and Carrot Sticks. Afterwards we had tea and DOUGHNUTS! We shared three! Merry Chirstmas! Happy Chanukah!
