What Vegans Eat – Day 299

Brunch: Once again I started the day with some green tea. I had to return our rental car and by the time I got home I was STAHVING! Gary had prepared Brown Rice Pasta with his Spicy Marinara Sauce (with extra veggies) and a Romaine Lettuce Salad.

Daily Green Juice: Kale, Collards, Cabbage, Celery, Carrots, Lemon

Dinner: We had our annual date with our friends Carole and Frasier. They come up from Baltimore and take in a few Broadway shows. We’ve been going to Candle 79 the last few years but this time we suggested to meet at Candle Cafe West for Grumpy Hour and then get a table for dinner. As Gary and I sat at the bar waiting for our friends to arrive we enjoyed Organic Sierra Nevada IPA along with edamame and olives.

It was the first night of Chanukah and one of the appetizers was Latkes! They were delicious with a ginger-apple sauce and cashew-horseradish sour cream.

I went with the Tempeh Avocado Sandwich with Gluten free mixed grain bread, tempeh, sweet potato, grilled red onion, avocado, cayenne aioli, and an arugula- squash salad.

Carole had the Paradise Casserole with millet, mashed sweet potatoes, refried black beans, sautéed greens, leeks, and mushroom gravy on the side.

There was no room for dessert for me but Frasier ordered the Mexican Chocolate Cake with chocolate sauce, chipotle candied walnuts, ginger cookie, caramel coconut ice cream and strawberries.

Thank you Candle Cafe West for a splendid evening out!

Evening: We got home early enough to do a little work and work up an appetite for an evening dessert: Apple Pie and So Delicious Vanilla Ice Cream.
